“Beauty is not extravagance; beauty is life” – Imelda Marcos

Most may frown on her excessive indulgences like owning 400 pairs of shoes. However, I am forced to agree with her on this statement. Everything on the planet is created with its own signature beauty. Some things one has peel away layers to see the inner beauty. Others are so awe-inspiring that one is left dumbstruck!

This blog is for people looking for Jewish mainstream lifestyle blog.

I started this blog on LiveJournal in 2008 because I had trouble finding clothes that were modest and fit with my personal style.  At the time, there were few tznius clothing stores online.  Typing the word “modest clothing” in Google brought up sites that did not reflect a Jewish lifestyle.  Other modest fashion sites were places that sell clothing!  Talking with other frum women, I found that I was not alone in my frustration.  You know the old expression, if you want something done you have to do it yourself! So that is how I began.

Frum Fashionista was the only actual non-retailer blog about “frum fashion.”  Over time, readers wanted more than the latest fashion trends and fashion tips with a tznius spin.  Soon my inbox became flooded with questions about kosher recipes, decorating, holidays, and fitness.  In March 2010, I knew it was time to expand Frum Fashionista into a full-fledged lifestyle blog.

I would also love to hear your ideas, advice and any suggestions that you readers feel would be helpful. At the end of the day, I am a busy wife and mother looking like-minded people to connect with.   Hopefully this blog will inspire you without hurting your pocketbook.  Or your handbag!

All the best,

(The Frum Fashionista)

  1. I was wondering if you knew of any boutiques that catered toward the Frum/Jewish woman in the Chicagoland/Skokie area

  2. Dear Frum Fashionista,

As someone researching and writing about Modest Fashion, I would very much like to meet you to talk about your blog. I am a lecturer at the University of London with a special interest how modest fashion is understood, marketed and dsicussed over the internet, and I’m especially interested in modest fashion blogs which belend an interest in fashion with faith.

I will be in New York on 19th, 20th, 26, 27, 28 September. Do let me know if you would be willing to meet at a location of your choice, or even discuss on the phone, if preferred as I would love to hear more about your ideas and the blog.

If this sounds familiar, you may have had emails from the past from one of my colleagues, Jane Cameron or Reina Lewis who are both at the London School of Fashion and also working on this project. I do hope you will get in touch and we can meet. In the meantime I wish you the best for Yom Kippur.

    Best wishes,

    Emma Tarlo
